Yes, the evening was full of rich conversation, enthusiastic neighbors, and plenty of Irish comfort food. We found that all that glitters doesn’t have to be Gold, but just a relaxing evening at our neighborhood Forest Hill Club House. Thank you Dottie for making this happen. The nominating committee, Toni Buckley, Yen Bachmeier, Anna Bolechowski, and Mary Hanson chaired by Dottie McHugh recommended the following slate of officers for 2008-2009:
Please join us at the April 14th meeting where we will vote for their recommendations. Monday, April 7, 2008 – Culinary Sampler 09:30 AM Cooking Demonstration for those who have signed up. 10:30 AM Board Meeting. Location: Sima’s house at 2180-9th Avenue. Monday, Apil 14, 2008 – Roses Parlor Musical Presentation 01:00 PM General Meeting 01:30 PM Parlor Musical (See detail below) 02:30 PM High Tea following the program Friday, Apil 18, 2008 – Spring Party - Celebrate Persian New Year 06:30 PM Welcome 07:00 PM Indulge in a Middle Eastern Culinary Delight PARLOR MUSICAL The theme is Roses. Come, in your vintage attire, 19th century (well… maybe early 20th) clothing and jewelry, and ready your voice for a fun filled sing-along. The performers are from City College of San Francisco Music Department. Mary Angela Argenti, soprano, received degrees in music from Dominican and Stanford Universities. Presently teaching voices at CCSF, she has performed with I Musici, the Louis Magor Singers and the San Francisco Symphony Chorus, and has toured as an Early Music specialist with Fioretti Musicali and Muses Delyte. Madeline Morton-Mueller, pianist, is head of the music department at CCSF, where she also teaches piano. She has premiered many modern works by Bay Area composers, is an active chamber music performer and has served on many arts education boards and committees. Ms. Mueller holds degrees from Bakersfield College, UC Berkeley and San Francisco State University. Music written for performance in the American Parlor from 1880 up to 1920 displays a style which usually combines both “popular” and “classical” elements. Most parlor music belonged to that special variety of expression (labeled by some as “Household Music”) which was intended primarily for performance by amateur (and usually female) players during musical gathering in the home. At the turn of the century, the basic song style and sentimental nature of “Upstairs” parlor music turned also to the more rigorous dance forms of “Downstairs” ragtime, waltzes, and two-steps. SPRING PARTY Our Spring Party will be on Friday, April 18th at 6:30 and the theme is Persian Night. The cost is $30 per person, includes a feast of Persian delicacies, with wine, provided by Sima Talai and her faithful helpers. RSVP by April 12th. Make check payable to FHGC and send to Sima Talai, 2180-9th Avenue. NOTES • May Board Meeting: This time it will be at the Forest Hill Club House. Meeting at 10:00AM on the 5th.
