PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE:

Sima Talai's cooking demonstration at our April 7 meeting won the Chef's Award for fun, participation, and exotic taste. This was a precursor to her presentation to our Spring Party on April 18, which featured fabulous Persian dishes, among which was Javaher Polow, Persian Jewelled Rice, one of the famous Persian dishes made for festive occasions. It was delectable to the palate and absolutely stunning to the eye. What a feast! See for yourself at the FHGC website photo page: http://www.foresthill-sf.com/gardenclub/LR/20080418-PersianNight/
Because we did not adequately advertise and promote our spring party, it was sadly under-attended. We must resolve to get the word out sooner, to invite our friends and neighbors. Of the many things we do, enjoying our community should be paramount.

Our general meeting featured “Rose's Parlor Music.” We set up our Clubhouse to be a late 19th Century setting in what must now be Great-grandma's parlor. The music was from the late 19th Century through the early 1920's. Listening to Mary Argenti's lovely soprano and Madeline Mueller's lively accompaniment to songs we may remember our grandparents' humming was pure nostalgia. Thank you, Louise Bacigalupi and Kathe Farrell for setting up this great occasion.

NOTES

NEW MEMBER:
A warm welcome to our newest member, Kathleen Bost, at 216 Magellan Avenue.

OPERA AT THE CLUBHOUSE:
On June 12th, you are invited to attend a dress rehearsal of Pocket Opera Summer production of Donizetti: Roberto Devereux, high drama in the court of Queen Elizabeth the First. Robert Devereux, Earl of Essex, has returned after a military triumph in Ireland, but not to the hero's welcome that one might expect. He faces charges of treason, unproven charges that may have been concocted by his many envious political rivals.
