PRESIDENTS' MESSAGE: As this Garden Club year is coming to a close, I wish to thank all of the members who served so unselfishly throughout the year in hosting events, arranging interesting speakers for us, putting together very special and fun parties for everyone, providing flowers in beautiful arrangements, baking, cooking, coming early to set up and clean up after events and for ensuring that our Garden Club continues to flourish. In April, Oxana Sanukova, presented a lovely program, full of great tips and resources for creating beautiful floral designs for the home and special occasions. Even seasoned floral arrangers learned some new tricks. At the end of the program we raffled off 7 fabulous arrangements to the delight of those who were in attendance. Everyone had one chance in three to win. A big thank you goes to Chair Eva Monroe, for arranging this excellent floral design event. Special thanks goes to Anna Bolechowski for providing the refreshments and special thanks to Nancy Hagosian for the floral arrangements. A big thank you also goes to Ingeborg McGlynn for a most informative report on taking care of our gardens during the drought season. Also in April, Chair Katie Balestreri and John Balestreri did an amazing and outstanding Primavera Italian theme party where nearly 60 people arrived to the lively Italian melodies played by Rene Sevieri on his accordion. Guests enjoyed Mionetto prosecco, Montepulciano red & Sicilian white wines, while munching on grilled Italian sausages and fresh foccaccia. At the tables, decorated with the red, white and green of the Italian flag, plus homegrown lemons in baskets, it was family style salad, followed by the buffet that featured home-cooked spring vegetables, penne rigate in tomato sauce, eggplant parmesan, and chicken piccata Milanese, all prepared at home by the Balestreri Team. Platefuls of homemade cookies, Italian specialities prepared by our own bakers, Carol DeLucchi, Charlene Vervais Martin and Katie Balestreri, disappeared quickly. Over 20 people helped in many ways to make this a festive and spirit-raising event. Thank you to everyone who helped and to all who came to make this such a successful event.
