PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE:

Welcome Spring, March is upon us!

On February 19, we had a presentation from one of our Forest Hill Garden Club Board members, Claudia Belshaw. Claudia is retired from San Quentin, where she was an Associate Warden. Her presentation was about the criminal justice system in California. She described the history of criminal justice as well as her experiences working at Soledad State Prison, San Quentin, and other prisons/correctional facilities and positions. San Quentin is one of the prisons that offers reform programs to inmates, such as gardening, education, and apprentice programs in plumbing and cooking. Claudia talked about the prison garden, where prisoners learn how to grow and care for plants. We had 28 people attendance with 1 assistant and 3 guests.

There are many people to recognize for their contributions. Thank you to Stan Puck for technical help with the presentation and computer assistance. Thank you to the House Committee (Nancy Hagosian and Anna Bolechowski) for arranging the floral arrangements and setting up the tea table. Thank you to the Host of the Tea, Marcia Elias, and her team, Amy Quirk, Eva Monroe, Jane Gersick, Laura Outsen, Kimberly Kruse, Donna De Santis-Buoymaster, and Julia Stroud. There was a fabulous selection of tea sandwiches, cookies, cake, cheese, and lovely goodies. Gratitude as well, to anyone I may have missed, because many people step in and help. Our events are a group effort. Thank you for pitching in!

Hope to see everyone for Succulent Planting Day, March 18!

Thanks,

Ann Rieger-Matthews
