PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE:

What a wonderful start to the Forest Hill Garden Club's new season. The Book-Fair and Food Drive event were a huge success. We had a terrific book presentation by the Bookshop West Portal, we raised funds for the SF- Marin Food Bank, swore in three members of our board, and enjoyed a beautiful afternoon tea. We had a great turnout with 36 people attending our event.

Thank you to Eva Monroe leading the fundraiser for the SF-Marin Food Bank. Nearly $5,000 raised with the matching pledge. Thank you to Teresa Callan for organizing the Book-Fair, and to Ingeborg McGlynn for hosting the tea. Special thanks to the food team: Kathleen Fong, Yen Bachmeier, Claudia Belshaw, Darlene Hartman, Ann Rieger-Matthews, Eva Monroe and Ingeborg for contributing to the fabulous tea table. Thank you, Eva, for the gardening themed table centerpiece and to Anna Bolechowski for helping with set up. Thanks to Yen Bachmeier for stepping up to the role of interim Parliamentarian to install 3 officers who missed the May installations. A photo gallery (45 photos in 2 pages) of this event can be viewed here.

December is a busy month. See scheduled dates and times listed in box below.

Erin Zerega has graciously agreed to organize this year’s Wreath Making Day. If you have fresh cut greenery from your garden to donate for wreath making - such as fir, cedar, rosemary, holly, or acorns - that would be great. Volunteers are needed with the cleaning up after the event. Please let Erin know (415-786-5419).

Come to give a hand with the party set up and decoration on Sunday. You will be rewarded with a delicious lunch prepared by Kathleen Fong. Please contact Kimberly (415-987-0634) if you can volunteer. We need to know the head count so Kathleen can effectively plan for lunch. She has a delightful meal planned.

Kimberly Kruse is valiantly chairing this year’s much anticipated Holiday Dinner party. The theme is Come to Life with the Nutcracker. Free flowing manhattans and martinis and live music will be featured.

Ann Rieger-Matthews is spearheading our first Creativity Fair on Saturday December 16. The Garden Club is doing this in conjunction with the FHA Gingerbread House event. We need donations of handmade items to sell in order to raise funds to upgrade our FHGC website. If you would like to volunteer to help with this event, or if you have craft items you would like to donate, please contact Ann (415-722-6692).

Wishing everyone a Happy Holiday Season.

Ann Rieger-Matthews
