BULLETIN

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE:

The Garden Club kicked off the New Year with a fabulous fashion show! Springer Teich, owner of Vintage a la Mode on Sacramento Street, presented a fashion show from a more gracious era, with “Gatsby-esque” Art Deco dresses modeled by our very own club members: Teresa Callan, Darlene Hartman, Eva Monroe and Pansy Waller. What a fun afternoon it was. I would like to thank Clorinda Aldrich for organizing the show, Donna Earhart and Eva Monroe for the yummy refreshments, Sima Talai for loaning us the beautiful “runway” and Nancy Hagosian for the lovely decorations. If you missed the show, you can still get a glimpse of it by watching two video clips on YouTube: Part 1 (3:18) and Part 2 (7:56)

February brings us a very special event from the Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco. I am thrilled to let you know that we will have a private docent guided tour (slideshow presentation) of “The Cult of Beauty: The Victorian Avant-Garde, 1860-1900”, which will open at the Legion of Honor on Friday the 18th, at our very own clubhouse two days later on Monday, the 20th. What more appopriate than an afternoon tea afterward to complement the show. Don’t miss it!

NOTES

The Cult of Beauty at the Legion of Honor
This major exhibition comes from the Albert and Victoria Museum in London, showcasing the unconventional creativity of the British Aesthetic Movement. The superb artworks on view encompass the manifold forms of Victorian material culture: the traditional high art of painting, fashionable trends in architecture and interior decoration, handmade and manufactured furnishings for the “artistic” home, art photography and the new modes of dress.

Saint Patrick’s Day Dinner Party – a day before. Live accordion music with Tom Torriglia!...
This event sells out quickly. $30/person - Make your check out to Forest Hill Garden Club (FHGC), note "St. Pat's Party" and drop it in the club house mail box - 381 Magellan or give it to Dottie or Dan McHugh at the February Association or Garden Club meeting.
