PRESIDENTS' MESSAGE:

Happy New Year! We trust that everyone's holidays were wonderful. We send our best wishes to each of you and your families in the New Year.

The Garden Club closed out 2017 and kicked off the holiday season with a fabulous holiday dinner dance party. The theme was Christmas Market German Style or Christkindlmarkt. The clubhouse was transformed into a holiday market place setting filled with red and white stalls, twinkle lights in every corner, and nutcrackers in all shapes and sizes. Guests were warmly greeted at the entrance with a cup of Glühwein to chase away the winter cold. Gingerbread cottages with glowing candy windows were magically constructed by our talented decoration team as table centerpieces. These sweet little wonders later went home with some of the lucky guests to continue the joy of holiday celebrations. We savored a sumptuous dinner and enjoyed the company of our Forest Hill friends and neighbors. As you know, a wonderful event like this would not be possible without a team of dedicated and hardworking ladies: Yen Bachmeier, Laura Outsen, Nancy Butte, Eva Monroe and Donna Earhart. The many who came to help with the set up were treated with a delicious Chicken Acapulco lunch provided by Kathe Farrell. Thank you all!

To start the New Year in January, we have a very special program for you. Club members will be treated to a demonstration of The Art of Bonsai, an ancient living art form from Japan and China dating back over one thousand years. In the past, our club has done Ikebana, orchids, and various forms of floral arrangements, but this will be the first time we do Bonsai. The demo will be presented by a member of the Bonsai Society of San Francisco. Men are welcome because bonsai is a male dominated field, so bring your spouse, we think they will enjoy it very much, as will you. Formal afternoon tea to follow.

This event is free to members but because food and wine will be served, we would like to get a headcount for planning. Please RSVP to Yen Bachmeier at 415-260-5512 or email Yen@BachmeierSF.com by January 18. Don't miss it!
