Forest Hill Garden Club
PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE: Garden Club members cheerfully arrived for Games Day, some brought their spouses and friends. We enjoyed a fun afternoon, leisurely passing the time with friends, playing bridge, scrabble, monopoly, bingo, and puzzle. A BIG THANK to Helen Scholten for gamely stepped up to assume the event chair's role and responsibility in short notice. I also want to thank her team Louise Bacigalupi, Dottie McHugh and Pansy Waller, who generously pitched in to help Helen with the set up and clean up. The clubhouse was decked out in abundant number of beautiful cymbidiums, phalaenopsis orchids, in all glorious colors. Bright and cheery early spring daffodils graced the game tables. Winners of the games got to take home the lovely table centerpieces. All and all, it was a successful event and everyone had a good time. Our February program brings us a very special event: the Ikebana presentation on Monday, the 18th. More than simply putting flowers in a container, Ikebana ("living flowers" or also known as "the way of flowers") is the Japanese disciplined art form in which nature and humanity are brought together, with its employment of minimalism and the practice of noble silence. Sounds like a Zen meditation? Come and find out. The presenter is Nancy Locke, a member of the San Francisco chapter of the Ikebana International Society. Nancy will cover the history of Ikebana and perform demonstrations of four arrangements. There will be a raffle with these arrangements as prizes. Don’t miss this special event. RSVP by February 12: Katie Balestreri @ 665-5140 or kkbal@att.net Get ready for the Lunar New Year party. It's the year of the Snake. Dim sum, roasted pig, lion dance and fun!
