BULLETIN

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE:

The Garden Club's February program, the Ikebana Presentation, was a resounding success. We had excellent turn out and several members came bringing guests. Our presenter, Nancy Locke from the Ikebana International, set the stage with a brief history of Ikebana, the use of materials, tools and technique. Her knowledge of the subject and the way she communicated it was illuminating and her demonstration a feast for the eyes. We raffled off the five finished arrangements as well as additional flowers that were not used. I am happy to report that due to the extraordinary generosity of one of our members, Amy Quirk , we were able to cover the entire speaker's fee using the proceeds from the raffle. Thank you, Amy.

I would like to thank our event chair, Katie Balestreri who organized the program and ran the show, Eva Monroe for an excellent job assisting Nancy during the demonstration, and the ever supportive team of helpers: Donna Earhart, Kathe Farrell, Mary Hanson, Dottie McHugh and Pansy Waller who made everything run smoothly. Last but not least, I'd like to thank our faithful Old Goat Mel for being there to lend some muscles with the heavy set up and breakdown.

Mark your calendar for the Garden Club annual Spring party on the 15th. This year we'll relive the sixties with the oldie but goodie music and celebrate the nostalgic American counterculture movement with the "Flower Power" theme. Drinks and buffet dinner for a modest price of $25 per person. RSVP early to reserve your space. See attached flyer.

Don't miss the Forest Hill fifth annual Lunar New Year party on the 10th. It's the lucky year of the Snake. There will be dim sum, roasted pig, lion dance and fun!

See you there!
